The 'Butte du Lion de Waterloo' or mound of the lion of Waterloo, is a war monument that reminds of the war at Waterloo on the 18th of june 1815. The French troupes of Napoléon Bonaparte fought with an amalgame of 'allied' troupes. The most popular of the leaders were the english duke Wellington and the prussian Von Zieten.

The lion consists of 28 tons of cast rion. It was built at Seraing, transported by steamboat and then pulled with a wagon with 20 horses.

The cone of mould on which he stands has a diameter of 169 meters, 40,5 meters high, 520 meters de circonference, 290.485 m3 of mould, 226 stairs. It was erected by the Dutch in power at the time (before the independance between 1823 and 1826) in Braine-l'Alleud, at the exact point where the Prince of Orange was said to be wounded.

Silvana Mossotto: 'Artificial hills in my country are made of rubbish inside. This reminds me too much them. But building a monument of war is not easy i think.'
