The city hall of Verviers was built between 1775 and 1780 in Louis XVI style. It crownes the middle of the Market.
The 3 center spans jump 1 span forward, giving the building a T-form ground plan.
Crown on J.-B. Renoz' work is a nice lantern turret, where every quarter of an hour the famous Corneil Gomze's carillon sings over the city.
Under the fronton, there is 'Publicité, sauvegarde du peuple'. This means 'Publicity, shielding the people'. Dit was chosen by the mayor Pierre David the day ofter the indepedence of Belgium, to commemorate that the city councels now were public.
