The Royal Monnaietheatre was built between 1817 and 1819, accroding to the plans by L.Damesme in neoclassicistic style. Typical is the portico with the Ionic colons that carry the fronton.
This fronton was only filled with half relief by E.Simonis in 1854. In 1855 a big fire burned down the building. In no more than 1 year, J.Poelaert was able to rebuild it. one of the elements he used was cast iron.
In 1983-86, an important change was made: A.2R.C and Urbatstage tower.
We thank Bart Van Oudenhove for the nightly pictures.
