The 'National Bureau for the completion of the North-Southjunction' was created in 1935. Until then the North and Southstation were the most important stations, with each their own network. The junction should be made with the construction in the center of a new station.
This Central station was the last oeuvre of Horta, in 1945 Brunfaut took over.
The hall with the ticket windows takes its light form coffers in the ceiling.
The greatest part of the Central Station is situated underground, with a complex of corridors and galleries that leads to the platforms and the neighbouring streets.
