There is quite some discussion about the fact, whether Brussels or Geraardsbergen have found out Manneken Pis.
The accounts of the Geraardsberge city mention an order for a 'lathoenen mannekin' in 1455-1456. This happened at the occasion of rebuilding the city, that was damaged on April 16th 1452 by the Jean de Croy's troups. Gilles Van der Gucht made the wooden model, after which Reinier van Thienen made it in copper. In 1459 it was put on top of the fountain (this was destroyed in 1835, but the statue survided).
According the the local people, this Manneken Pis is the eldest. Click here to see the Manneken Pis in Brussels.
