'The Belgian' is a modern piece of art (statue) by Jozef Moortgat. It means:
Lives on large feet.
Heart as heart as a stone.
Hands are positionned wrongly.
Works with his ellebows.
Ideas turn around money, power and sex.
Has a big neck.
Head and face are E-shaped - E from Egoist!
Holds a glob, to which he is chained.
And because he is made to love... his body has the shape of a heart!
Jozef Moortgat about this work of art (translated by us): 'This is already the second version. The first one was made in at the end of the years 1970 and was called 'I'. This was how I saw myself after stopping abusing alcohol. After getting bankrupt in 1997 and my experiences with banks, justice, lawyers, the town of Zandhoven, the OCMW... I got the idea to add the globe to it. In Septembre 1998, I put it in front of my door, and Kristin Matthyssen of the Gazet of Antwerp made an article about it September 22th 1998. it is only 1 of the metal sculptures I made... '
