Royal sun lownges. Built with regularly repeating structure elements of cast iron, ofsteel and iron that together with the use of glass give the possibility of large over-exertions. In accordance with the plans of the architect Alphonse Balat from 1873. Leopold II was the investor.

De serres staan niet ver van hetThe sun lownges are situated near the Royal Palace of Laken. They are a combination of pavillions, glass cupolas and long galeries.

They are one of the first buildings belonging to the art nouveautendency and are a good exemple of how these architects tried to convert the metal into more natural forms. With the use of steel they could reach larger over-exertions, what resulted in a complete new architecture. The architect Victor Horta found here one of his best sources of inspiration .

Evry year the gardens are opened for the public during the last week of april and the first week of may.

When they are illuminated at the evening they become a fayry-tale like radiation, as you can see in the photographs of Bart Van Oudenhove.
